Same size pieces is best. Cover in iced salt water for at least 20 minutes. Drain and use fresh water to cook. Cook until tender, a fork or knife goes in easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1\/2 a stick, or more of softened butter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1 1\/2 cups of milk (warmed, so as not to insult the potatoes)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garlic powder (just a bit)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salt &amp; Pepper<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cut butter into the hot potatoes after you drain them. Mash until there are no large pieces, then slowly mash in adding <strong>WARM<\/strong> milk. Sprinkle a little garlic powder, and salt and pepper towards the end of the milk adding process. If you need more milk, you have to heat it up. I&#8217;m not kidding. No cold milk. Mash until you are satisfied with the consistency of your taters, precious. They can go in the oven with a pat of butter on top.
